I must be a bit older than heeler because I do remember aluminum kegs.
They were very durable being very thick and thus much more valuable to "scrappers".
All modern kegs are stainless steel, but the old ones are still out there.
I just saw one on craigs list for $200 , premium price for a 25 year old keg

Ya know I can't say you are wrong and I won't.....I was thinking as of today's market and getting your hands on one at the beer store today. So with that thinking an aluminum keg would surely be a rare find in America today I mean. Nowthen, if you found one for sale I would have to think it's got some age on it! I know no reason why it couldn't be used as a boiler for your still, the three that I have are SS and they work just fine but I bet if you looked a little bit you could find a SS keg a whole lot cheaper than aluminum.
You could buy a keg of your fav beer and there ya go. Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part.LOL
