Im in the middle of constructing my own carbon filter out of white PVC. Its 2'' wide and 3.5ft long with a coupler to 3'' PVC at the top for the holding tank. Im planning on filtering out about 3 gallons of neutral 150 proof. Is the high proof of the alcohol possibly damaging to the PVC or could it give any off tastes to the alcohol while its filtering? Ive got all the filters and activated carbon ready to go, just dont wanna destroy 3 gallons of hard work o3ut of ignorance. Any help anyone?

"Stop stop stop stop stop stop.......

Don't ya never wonder why we here in the west are 1 out of every 6 stricken with some form of cancer?

Glass, stainless or copper,,,,,IMO.

High proof etho is a solvent. Ya ever put MEK in a plastic vessel?

Don't trust them likker bottles made a plastic either.

IMHO."

I kinda figured PVC and high strength alcohol was a bad idea, just wanted a second opinion on it. Thanks for the help.

There are some chemically tolerant plastics used in food production but I don't think regular PVC drain pipe is one of them. The Stainless Steel filter unit from Brewhaus is nice and works great, even with it though you don't filter 150 proof product , it should be cut to about 45-50 % or the carbon doesn't work right.

Just my 2cents.....I never carbon filter hooch over 120proof (60%) and my filter tube is PVC 2 inch also. And thats right carbon will not work on high proof hooch - something about molecular destruction or some shit like that, just know you should not carbon filter shine over 120 proof. And if you cut it lower before you filter it WILL work better. Go with 100 proof until you get this whole thing figgered out.

I still cant figger out why anybody wants to drink 190 proof likker anyway. Yeah it comes out that way but it does'nt taste worth a shit. Its actually kinda scarey to me to think folks will drink it that way. Oh well.
