Hey Guys,
As a picture is worth a thousand words I decided to post a photo of my Sunday afternoon. I'll just have anyone with a question about the still post it, instead of you reading me going on and on and on. I will say that the plate of corn bread muffins and butter made by my gal are an essential part of my methodology.
Stay well all.
Yours,
PJ Lily

What a nice relaxeing attitude for a Sunday afternoon. You'll never catch me without a hat on either, and seldom without a book. And the yeasts are doing all the work.

Looking forward to sitting on the edge of your deck in GA. Although, with the responses, may be standing room only on a basketball sized court.

Nice setup! By the way, I've read that book. Those muffins look pretty darn good!

Cheers!

hey,pj nice setup.almost looks like mine. i didnt
use the 3in copper, i used 2in and made it taller on that section.i didnt use the 2nd valve on the reflux side, but i use a different column for stripping runs. how much coil did you put in the top? mine has a double coil of 1/4in in it.
{10ft} i use a 30 gal. barrel and a pond pump for cooling. i throw gallon milk jugs of ice in the barrel to keep things cool.

Hey Guys,
Samson - The thermometer cost about $20 and I got it at a foo foo kitchen store called Sur La Tab. You could probably pick up the same for less at a big chain store. It works - ok - but it shuts down after five minutes of being on, so even though I can see it from my command chair I still have to stand up to turn it back on. Such effort! If I had my dream thermometer it would be a probe in the column with a cable running down to the actual meter which would sit on my work table. I know about the remote ones, but that doesn't work with the whole fung shway I got going. Thanks for asking.
Wineo - you're a bigger and better man than I. Boy would I love to see what your double coil looks like! Does it coil up and then come back down at the same entry level on the condensor? And all that in a two inch pipe? Wow. Another poster told me he used a three inch with the coil, but then also puts in copper mesh within the coiled rings. Very groovy as well. Myself, I used about five feet coiled around the two inch pipe which made it fit fine inside the three inch.
And you have a different column entirely for stripping? How's that work? What's the set up there. My boiler is a 50 liter keg atop a turkey boiler - I don't think I'm allowed a 30 gallon barrel, but you can ask her for me!
And yes. At the present time I am wastefully using the garden hose. But I do have as my next thing on the list setting up a pump. It was just easier to learn not having one more thing to worry about. Could you post a photo of your still? Would love to return more questions.
You guys all going to the Jamboree? Apparently I'm bringing the porch.
Thanks for the interest.
Yours,
PJ Lily

hey pj,i made 2 coils, one to just fit inside the 2in pipe, and the other around a piece of 3/4 copper. i fit the smaller one inside the bigger one,and conected them at the bottom. both water lines come out the top. next time i set it up i,ll take some pics so you can check it out.
i had some copper left over, so i made a short pot still column for stripping.its a 8in piece
of 2in,an 8in piece of 1.5in, and a 12in leibig
condencer that i used left over from my first
still. i ran it last week with 1s.s.scrubber in it,and stripped 6.5gal. of turbo 48 in 3hrs.
what a time saver! i got 1 3/4 gal.of 65%
i conected both these the same way to the keg,
with a 2in to 1.5in copper reducer.if you can unscrew the pickup tube out of the keg,{heat it with a torch} and do a little sanding in the neck of the keg,then that reducer will tightly fit in there with no leaks.{it expands when it gets hot}

PJ:

I want to go to the jamboree I just can't committ to anything at the moment as we have our house up for sale and I don't know when we will be moving. If it's not that weekend I plan to be there. I see where mississippi mike is in the same boat. If it works out I look forward to sitting and sipping on your porch.

Cheers

Elricko,

I do hope you can make it. Once you see this country, you may decide to cut your moveing distance in half.

John:

I plan to make it if at all possible. It's just that moving is a royal pain. The worst part is that with realtors dropping by all the time I have to keep my 'equipment' under wraps, well hidden. That makes using it almost impossible. I wish I had a mountain cave like some people do to escape to.

North GA is indeed beautiful. As a matter of fact I love the entire east coast of GA. Especially around Savannah. But alas Fl is calling my name. Especially the fact that they have no state income tax there. Plus I can keep a couple of gators around to keep the 'revenoors' at bay.

Cheers
