"Hi. I need help with the process of rectification. It's a second time rectification. The product is at 65 C now and it started overflowing through the hose. What's the problem and what should I do now?
Thanks in advance"

"Thanks for a quick reply. What do you mean exactely about packing? It contains product according to a guideline - 24 liters. Can it be because of tight packing of copper grid in a column? It started steaming not evenly but from time to time."

"What is your heat source? A hot plate? If so does your hot plate cycle? If your heat source cycles this could explain the intermittent liquid surges. Also this condition completely upsets the desired temp gradients....
If the packing is too tightly packed. The wetted surface area on the packing can become completely saturated to the point where it reaches a critical mass of liquid and will not allow vapor to pass through. Then all rising vapor completely condenses within the packing and further contributes to the flooded condition within the column.
Wish I were smart enough to do a better job of explaining but I'm not really a column guy. Hopefully other will chime in.
Try pulling out your packing and repacking it."
