"Has anyone ever added more yeast to a mash that stopped. Will this help it to finish or just a waste of yeast ?

what makes you think its not finished??? If it stopped fermenting and the gravity has remained the same for a few days, then letter settle and run it. Now if you really want to add more yeast it cant hurt --- depending on the yeast you may get an after taste from too much though. Which is not the end of the world just something to think about.

Most yeasts take some hours to start and then go full force for a few days, then go slow and steady for a few more days. But just cause theres no bubbles in the airlock dosent mean its not fermenting. Still it should sit in the fermenter for 15 to 20 days for complete ferment and to really settle all the yeast goodies. There will always be yeast cake on the bottom of the fermenter so if you let it settle and get hard it will be clearer when you transfer it to your boiler. Practice and PATIENCE make perfect.

I never worry about it. If you have electric water heater elements then it makes a difference how clean the wash is. I've run some trash through my PS2HC using the hot plate w/no burning.
