"So I recieved my PSII and I'm in the process of setting it up. I am a little confused concerning the copper packing though. I am wanting to run in pot mode for the time being, and packed the upper colum completly with copper (as per the FIRST part of the directions...) Then I read half way through the book that packing is unused in pot mode, then in the back of the book it states it is best to use copper even in pot mode and suggests you to add a little copper.

So, is haveing the entire top portion of the PSII packed with copper to much?
Thanks for any feedback"

There seems to be some variations of what people do with that. I use 2 rolls in the bottom of the column, works good for me.

Are you pot stilling for a nice drinkin liquor or stripping? If stripping I use nothing at all in the column.

"Thanks for the feedback. Running a single dist of rum. I want to compare the immediate taste difference of the PSII packed with some copper as opposed to my easystill. My next run I will strip then re-run and see how that comes out.

After that I just may get brave and try the whole reflux thing BigGrin"

The reflux will get you some pretty high test stuff without much or any flavor. The best flavor will come with the one run in pot still mode.

"So after my first run I now understand the big difference in the smell/taste between stages. With my easystill it was just to small of a boiler and everything was happening to fast.

After I discarded my first 160 mil I made cuts every 400 mil. The first one had a sweet smell but tasted like ether, and the last smelt of burnt rubber and I had no intrest in tasting, lol. Everything else in between had minute differences in smell/taste but were very agreeable. I ended up with 3/4 of a gal that I'm keeping, diluted to 80-90 proof should equal to just about a full gallon.

Now to run the wifes neutral in reflux....."
