Saw a recipe somewhere for 16 oz wheat germ 10 lbs sugar and a can of tomato paste. Do you add the tomato paste after boiling the wheat germ or boil it too? ANy variations of this recipe that have better result. Is the doable in a easy distiller?

"The way I have done this recipe is.......I dont actually boil the wheat germ so to speak. The boiling of the water is to drive off anything thats in the water and to heat the water enough to melt or convert the sugar. So, if you boil your water and then pour it over your sugar to melt and then add your germ to that, stir well enough to melt the sugar and then add the paste thats all you need to do. You can add everything all at once with no probs too. The paste will turn it red thats normal. When it cools to the right temp for the yeast you've chosen add your yeast and let it ferment.
Now a word of warning....that recipe WILL gurgle over into your airlock, this too is normal, unless you use a blowoff tube it can really make a mess. Put the fermenter somewhere it wont matter if it overflows."

As far as the Easystill goes....sure you can use and ES. A still is a still.... just let it settle and clear.

OKIll give it a try. Should I clear with sparkoloid or just let it settle?

Forgot to say Im out of prestige vodka yeast but have tons of redstar champagne yeast. Small packs but says they ferment 5 gallons. Will that be as good

Yeast is yeast in a likker wash. Some will make more ethanol than others but the yeast you mention will work. Will it be as good???? Try it and let us know.

Well did the first wash with prestige vodka yeast and it was flavorful yet it did not ferment violently at all as I was expecting. Second wash was done exactly the same except used Red Star champagne yeast. It was nothing like the first was. Fermented 8 days before it quit. Cleared and run and it finished out pretty much like sugar liquor. Neither fermented violently with foam and all. I wonder if my well water is affecting the taste ,flavor,fermenting?

My favorite wheat germ recipe is a gallon of hot backset, 7lb sugar and wheat germ. Stir well and wait 1 hour. Then top with cold water. When cool enough dump it on top of the lees from your last batch. This is the fastest ferment I've found so far.

Can you use oats, like porridge oats or all bran, r does it have to be wheatgerm, and why?

Well you can but the recipe is called DWWG (death wish wheat germ) so if you used oats it would be called deathwish oats or bran.BigGrin
