"Well, hello. First post, and as usual I'm somewhat new to the game. But nowhere near new to the product, and somewhat of a expert to boot. As my profession deals with the said product. So there's a little introduction about me.

Now, down to the question. I currently have a Mr. Distiller / EasyStill / whatever other name it goes by. Works good enough, and my friend who borrows from time to time will testify to that as well. However, I'm wanting to get a little more production. Lets face it, if I do 5gal of ferment I might get 1gal of 60%abv. And thats just not enough to really do much. You figure in the loss during cuts and you just don't have much left. Not to mention the fact that it takes your entire day just to run 5gal of wash with the little guy... So I'm looking at upgrading.

Well, I've looked at the still in the Title, and seems like it is a pretty good setup. It's in my budget. And frankly, I don't want to have to guess with how to make a good still. Some research over at HomeDistillers shows that it has a decent following. And the BEST part is that it has a heater source built in.

The heater element is the selling point on this. I live in an apartment, and franky the heating element on the cook top is not going to hold up the weight of the still, and it's kinda hard to sit out on a open to view patio cookin' hooch.

So my question is, who's running this pot, and how do you like it? Do you sit it on anything special to keep the heat in the pot from scorching the surface of lets say a wood table, or countertop? Pics would be nice if you got any."

everyone on home distiller seems to love hilbilly stills anything one thing im going to say is you can get a good high output hotplate under a large keg with a tower on top usually find a keg for what 40-50$ another $40-50 for a hotplate and $100+ for a tower look at brewhaus.com they have some great ones as well main thing is shop around dont find a better deal the day after you order and be pissed about it get the right thing for your home

"And I've thought about that. I just really don't like the idea of using a hot plate. Although they may very well be able to hold the weight. That is one reason why I was looking at this. Anyone else have any problems with one of the many 1500w Hotplates holding the weight up?

Another thing I've looked at with the hotplates is the fact that they're only 1500w, which seems like it'd take FOREVER to heat up your pot. This one is 220v, but cranks out 5000w+"

"Yes, actually. Disconnect the dryer, lol...

But seriously, there is 220v wiring for the dryer, and room to place the still next to it. Also, I do have a inverter that goes 220v to 110v and vice versa..."

Understood. I've put a lot of thought into the type of still I want, one that will fit my needs. The biggest problem that I see out there you have to make a sacriface somewhere if you're buying a complete pot. Like I stated earlier, I could build, I have the skills. But I don't want to make a best guess on what will work, and what wont.

Do you think the fumes are going to be that big of a problem with a still of this size?

"The fumes should'nt be much of a prob from what I've found. And you dont want a fan or a open window blowing on your still.

A G???? $1000.00???? Man thats one hellofa setup!!!! For half that you can get all you'll ever need.

Crossedrifles08...if you get a pot with any real size to it you wont want a hotplate. By any size I mean like 8 gallons or bigger. Yeah, you wont want to sit a big ole pot on one of those. So gas or internal element is the only other way to go. And if internal is your choice, 110 will power it very nicely.

Its funny how folks that have never made a run can give advice."

Cf08...you mentioned in your first post that 5 gallon will yeild you 1 gallon of hooch. Thats pretty good really, After cuts I only get 2-2.5 qts. for keeping. I make pretty tight cuts cause I dont want any off nasties in my hooch but if its good to you thats all that matters. I also run 5 gallon mashes.

you should get no vapors, your condenssor should knock all the vapors down"
