"Hey All. I wanted to get some opinions on this grain bill. I have run one batch and it has been on oak for a month. Thiefed some off and it is turning out extraordinary. Am I good or just lucky?
Maize: 4 lbs Rye: 3.8 lbs Wheat: 1 lb Malted Barley 1.8 lbs
Mountain water (6.5 gallons), 5.2 ph, added stabilizer, 165 F added base grains.
Added Barley at 152 F
Conversion confirmed with iodine test
Pitched whiskey yeast at room temp and let fermint for 8 days
OG seemed a little low: 1.048 TG after 8 days was close to .999 but not too sure about this reading
Yield on stripping run seemed a little low: 4 quarts from 58% to 20% abv then stopped
Spirit run: 1/3 water added to 4 quarts: yield was 1/2 gallon at 63 %
Very nice smelling and tasting product.
I would really like your opinions on what I did right and wrong. As always I took really good notes and am wanting to move forward with a few more batches to impress whisky-knowledgeable friends..:)
Thanks! BS Dave"
