"Hey guys, I have been trying to figure out how to build my first still. I have a basic drawing and idea
A pressure cooker (will the type of metal matter?)
Copper line
A bucket for my cooling barrel
And use liquid silicon to plug any leaks
nd also. I was wondering I've always heard if you distill your liquor wrong you'll go blind, since I enjoy my eye sight, how do I keep that from happening?
First still for my first run.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Blake"

The only thing you have to worry about that may be bad to drink is the first 2 oz of what comes out of your run. Methanol isn't good for your health so you dump it or use it as an alcohol fuel. The best advise I can give you on building your own first still is to just buy a proven stainless steel still. More than likely you will be frustrated and or unhappy with what you build unless you copy a good one to begin with."

Good point.. Since I'm a newbie I was wondering about a good starter mash. I was told a easy one was 10lbs of whole corn, 5lbs of sugar And yeast (will champagne yeast work?) or the ujsm since a lot of people speak so highly of it.. Im chalk full of questions friend, cooking instructions would be appreciated. nd one last thing.. After I get the first of my liquor out that contains methanol would I have to strain out any more chemicals that could hurt someone?

And also I'm going to be running a different still than I had originally picked, a friend of mine reccomended it. Same basic concept just with a few tweaks. Now pressure cooker, just a large SS turkey cooker or stew pot with propane heat source and a shroomed copper lid.

I am also considering building my first still. I like this design ...http://moonshine-still.com/. Also looking for simple recipe. Will be following this thread closely.
