"Does anyone know where I can find DAP or any other kind of yeast nutrient safe for making shine, and where around town can I get it. In my town we have an ace hardware and four big chain supermarkets. Will I have any luck there? If not is there any kinda of homemade stuff that also works as a yeast nutrient?
Thank you"

They claim you can use multi vitamins. Never heard of such a thing. If you do the Smurf vitamins rinse off the purple papa smurf. I think flour should work. Just a theory of course.

Great tip on the fertilizer. Never would have thunk of that. I just bought a big bag of Distillers Yeast which cost about 8 bucks for a half pound bag. The brewmeister guy say to use that for everything at 1 Tablespoon per five or six gallon batch. It claims to bring the wash up to 20 percent in twenty four hours. He said it didnt need any nutes for most washes..but he acted like there might be some recipes which need it. He also had Turbo Yeast but did not recommend for me to use it. Can you interpret any of this stuff? Thanks.

The brewmeister is blowing smoke up your ass.BigGrin and is an IDIOT, judging by what they have told you. Only thing they got right was not to use Turbo Yeast.

"Well was under the impression the fellow was saying the yeast would bring the wash or mash or whatever it's called up a 20% alcohol level within two days. I would assume this would be under ideal conditions with enough sugar or maybe sugar and water only..right temp etc. In previous wine making endeavors I have used Champagne yeast which was claimed to bring the alcohol level up to 17% but it takes a lot longer than 24 hours on that deal. I have known the guy for 25 years or so and buy all my beer and wine making supplies from him. This will be my first try at distilling. He hasn't lied to me prevously..but he is a yankee from Noo Yawk so maybe he has decided to blow smoke up my rectum as suggested by Bayou. Do you have any thoughts on the topic? If so Would be glad to hear them. Thanks.

Was thanked: 15 time(s) in 15 post(s)
Ya know they do sell a 24 hour Turbo yeast and it claims to make high proof wash in that timespan, pretty sure it says 18-20%. I dont use it but remember seeing it. Maybe thats what the fella was refering to??? He might not have been lying at all.

Yeah I dont think he was lying either. Now mistaken or overly optimistic would not be outside of the equation maybe:) Not to get further complicated but I just read somewhere on here if the wash get past 18 percent it makes the hooch taste funny. Like as in a dead yeast flavor or similar. This has bound to be the most complicated hobby I have ever contemplated trying. Its like hanging out with a bunch of injuneers and biochemists..electricians..plumbers..etc. I thought there would be a bunch of old laid back moonshine sippers over here. Shows what I know huh?

Yeah I know they do, but if the potential ABV% is not high enough to ferment out to a given %ABV then it is impossible. So it depends on the sugar content of the wash. if the potential is there then yes is possible with specialty yeast to achieve a higher %ABV than with say bakers yeast.

Well all this anguish was clearly my fault. I apologize profusely for acting rude and boorish etc. I think its being caused from stress wondering how long before it take my new brewhaus hooch making apparatus with the extra large mop bucket and the heater to make it to my house. I love everybody..which includes yall:) Sorry to have caused problemos. It aint my style.
