"hello all
well this is my 1st run with my new psII hc with 8 gal pot and 1500 watt hot plate

mash
20 lb sugar
27 liters distilled water
1 pack turbo 48
let it set 5 days
clairified with sparkaloid 48 hrs
starting sg 1.114 76 f
ending sg .998 76 f
works out to roughly 16.8 % abv 4.38 liters (100%)

24 liters in the pot
setup in reflux collum full copper rolls and packed peaces
in and around cooling unit in top
it took almost 2 hrs to heat
collected the 1st 50 ml and tossed
collected the next 40 ml to time it ( 40 ml in 1 minute)
collected 250 ml checked abv ( 86% 172 proof)
slowed it down to about 25 ml a min ( 92abv 184 proof)

not bad for 1st time with a reflux i guess
i had been using the easystill before this and was getting 1 liter at 100 proof in 4 hrs with same mash wow what a difference

fantastic job brewhaus"

Good show old Chap. Hearty congrats. Now did you send off for the fancy router speed control gizmo or did you just use the built in thermostat which come built into the heater I think? How do you reckon the heater will work on my 15 gallon mop bucket model which is supposed to be coming one of these days. Thanks for any input. PS..now why are you bothering to use distilled water on this deal? Since you have a distiller did you distill your own water. Enquiring minds need to know this kinda stuff. Thanks.

With my setup with a 8gal pot it was easy to get the top of colum at the disired temp and maintain it i would think that with a15 gal pot and 1500 watt it will be hard to get it up to temp you might want to use propane as for the heat control i used the thermostat that was built into hot plate turned it to max and left there for entire run just controled the temp with the water flow into collum as for the distilled water this was a test run was trying get the most from the mash i could with as little impurities as i could and i did make the distilled water from tap

Ok thanks..shoulda knowed them folks was pitching heat to convince me the hundred buck hotplate could bring it up to temps. I already sent off for the 20 amp router controller from the place somebody recommened Rockweller or similar. I think I am buying a bunch of un needed stuff. As soon as I learn enough about this hobby I am going to write a book called Home Moonshine Making for Dummies. Figgering to leave the tecky geeky injuneeer type mofos plumb out of the loop. They seem to just tend to get folks confused. Whatcha think?

It is possible to heat up 30 gal with 1500watts but how much time is the ? I ran across a book on making column still from a 30 gal hot water heater and changing the 120 volt element to a 2500 (j think) 220 volt but you use 120 volt with it which makes it a heavy duty 1500 watt elemnet so i am guessing it can be done but just how long will it take to heat up is the 100 dollar question

Thanks for the info. I have the turkey burner on stand by notice:) That was what I originally had planned on using anyway. What would happen to a person if they did a 7 gallon batch in the 15 gallon bucket? Reckon that would speed things up a bunch. Maybe reserve full loads for the propane. Would the half loads create any spacing issues between the liquid and top of the jug?

It will fine to run half loads becouse you will never run the pot dry unless you were distilling water then you would o ly collect 80% of what was in pot

Ok thanks for the input on that one. I will plan on doing half loads with the hotplate. Also thanks for the water distilling tip. I have promised Mama she could have some distilled water on this deal:)

The primary concern when running a heating element is to always make sure the element is submerged in liquid else they will burn out.

Thanks Bayou. I would love to have one of the water heater element deals but will have to settle for the hotplate and/or turkey burner for right now. Afeered the Warden is going to put me in solitary confinement when she sees the plastic amounts I have already incurred. I did not even bother to mention the cash I have spent on trying to get the ho made model functional. If she gets a whiff on that deal I could get the needle..lol.
