"Sorry if this is a dead horse, I'm new to the forum, have searched around and haven't found anything.

I'm a pretty avid beer and wine maker, and have distilled in the past. I'm looking for something easy, so the idea of a counter top still sounds nice. I don't want to make more than 5 gallons of mash at once, so the idea of running a couple gallons a day doesn't sound awful.

That said are Mr. Distillers pieces of crap? I've seen some youtube videos, I could see it going either way. I assume they're a pot still? Do they have any copper in the system?

If you hate on Mr. Distillers, have anything else that's really easy to use that's somewhat comparably priced?"

It's about the size of a large coffee pot. A fan at the top cools the coils, which are not exposed so I don't know for sure what they're made of, but I assume their copper. It requires no temperature control. You plug it in and it works- almost idiot proof.
It produces about a quart in a little over 2 hours. It comes out a little over 60%ABV the first run. I double distill to increase that and improve the flavor, but that's my personal preference. I've used it for about a year with hardly a problem.
Not sure what else you want to know.
I guess it's worth noting that what I have is an easy still, which is basically the same as a Mr. Distiller. Easy still is available from Brewhaus, while the Mr. Distiller is the version sold by Mile High Distilling."

Thanks. Do you recommend the glass over the plastic collector? Also the carbon filter seems kind of cheesy, recommend that?"

I got the glass, because I didn't trust the plastic. In retrospect, I'm not sure it matters much.
I use the carbon filter. It works for me."

Thanks for all your advice, what proof are you normally getting on your second run?"

Depending on what I'm making, when I make my cuts, I get between 135-150 proof."
