"fancy word yes, but what the poster got was tails not exothermic reaction. I bet when he thinks back on the collection rate it will become obvious????
I concure on the tails and also you SHOULD add mesh to your column.

"hmmmmmm, well in that situation you cant use mesh. Copper mesh is for reflux in a tower, it helps to clean up your distillate.
As for the redistill it question, sure you can redistill it --- take that 1/2 gallon and add 3 gallons of water to it (or somewhere around that volume) you'll need some volume in your cooker just for the boiling of the liquid, but yes that can be done. Now if you can wait you can save that 1/2 gallon and make a few more collection runs to get a total of 4-5 gallons of first time hooch and then run that again."

High ph or low ph did you check it with a meter? Never checked my wash before. Does anybody know what you get with a low acid wash?

If you have a high ph wash( you water was way high ph) will this create a problem with the final product? Ie blue moon, ammonia in the hooch. Never had that problem, around these parts everything is acidic, water and soil

Actually poor as a church mouse, but One of my money making gigs is dealing with acidified and low acid products so I know enough to get me in trouble. The thing that caught my attention was the thermal energy when water was added just want to make sure I don't make somthing like that.
