"Good morning, gents: I'm so noob I don't even have my still yet (gonna go with the PSII Hi-Cap and 15gal tank), but I'm interested primarily in doing moonshine / corn whiskey. I've been pouring over Ian Smiley's ""Making Pure Corn Whiskey"" book, especially the hot mash technique. However, after some time on the forum here, I just discovered the UJSM recipe and dang it sure looks easy.
Question: As a total noob, should I start with the ""seemingly unscientific"" UJSM route, or should I go with Smiley's ""scientifically measure"" everything hot mash route?"

Well if you really want to gain knowledge on a tried and true recipe that has been proven to work and discussed by my many different people who have tried it then I suggest you try Uncle Jesse's Simple Sour Mash. I also would recommend that you follow the thread on the subject over at http://homedistiller.org/forum/There is a wealth of information on distillation in general over there." |

Personally, I'm perfectly fine with it ... you remind me of my favorite cousins & uncles ... and many of your comments make me chuckle ... so you'd fit right in at my family parties. Anyway, HD just seems a bit more formal ... and perhaps a bit less social than some folks are used to. Which makes sense since they are VERY technical. But I'm quite sure they have everyone's best interest in mind. So don't be a stranger over there. Best Regards, --JB"

I hang out there for a while and they start sending me nasty messages and stuff from the admin section threatening to pull my plug etc. Do you reckon it is me or them? Thanks. Well when i first joined HD I was not sure how to take some of the folks over there and I don't think they were sure about me either. Some times I tend to be pretty blunt, but I been workin on that and try not to seem like a smart ss, though sometimes thats how it gos across. Once I hung around there awhile and started paying attention and getting to know the folks through there post I found it to be a great source of quality information concerning all aspects of Home distillation." |

"Don't let em git to ya BW. There is a goal and they sending a proper message. It surely ain't personal. They want some folks a watching to know that the is a degree of expertise within the community. Not just a bunch of yahoos flying by the seat of their pants.
Cheers Larry"
