I suggest you get one of the simple hydrometers that Brewhaus offer on there website. They offer both Hydrometers for checking your wash as well as Alcohol-meters to check your spirits proof. both are economically priced."

"ditto they are also 2 diferent hydrometers\\
a tripple scale hydrometer for specific gravity and potential alcohol
and a proof and trail hydrometer just for alcohol alone"

"There should be a temperature correction chart somewhere.

This will do it.

that would be the hydrometer for initial gravity ( fermentation only ) .. from .99 a -2.6 approx. % vol. up to 1.150 a 19.6 approx. % vol.. a reading after the mash is cooked and a reading after 7-14 days of fermentation.

its kinda too late for that batch. you need to take a reading at the beginning of fermentation ( initial specific gravity). once you mash has cooled. they are normally temperature specific around 60 f. record that reading for ex. 1.07 / 9.1% approx. vol.. then how ever long you let your mash sit. take another reading ( final specific gravity). 1.005 / .7 % approx. vol..* 9.1% -.7% = 8.4% approx. %

If anyone is interested you can go to Youtube and get demos on how to use and read a hydrometer -- and a alcohol meter (hydrometer). If a video will help in your studies on the subject.

Sounds like you need an alcholmeter, which is a hydrometer calibrated to read proofs up to 200%. Your hydrometer is used to measure specific gravity and low alcohol levels. Brewhaus has them, their cheap!
