EE II - pot vs reflux - mixing it up

"So I've been playing around with NcHooch's bourbon recipe and like a fool haven't been keeping notes -as I've been learning I've gone back and forth between the pot still set up and the reflux set up - thinking I was missing out on passing along the corn flavor the last two runs have been running in the pot still mode but I'm only starting at 120 and dropping from there - I was pulling 160 plus with the taller column but can't remember if I was running the water thru the column or doing it as a taller pot still - what are others doing? Keeping it in pot still mode and collect the low wines of a few runs to do a spirit run seems like a waste of time/energy given the efficiency of this still and not sure I have he patience for this - thoughts??
With spring coming I'll have some fruit to run soon - I want the flavor and the ease of just one run - are folks going with a tall pot still?
I know i'm going tall and running like a pot still next run, but curios what others are doing and experiencing - Appreciate the feedback - but please keep it specific to the EE II and your experiences"

"Hi. run in pot mode for flavor and reflux for neutral. Don't use any copper in pot still tower and no water in the tower. For reflux you need both the tower
packing and water at the head. I find copper works best in the tower for reflux, others use rashig rings and copper.
Your getting 120 in pot mode is alright, I usually get 120 to 140 to start out and then it works it's way down from there.

Thanks Bushy - will I geta higher abv if I run in pot still mode with the extension - so running at 3 feet? Are you doing multiple runs? I know folks like to oak whiskey at 140 - so playing around to get there - want the good corn flavor and not just the oak

I do use 2 plugs with the regular column and it always starts out around 140. I guess you may get about the same results with the tall column and no plugs, but the copper takes some of the sulphides out of the product so I use it. More than one way to skin a cat.

Got to have the copper in the pot still to help get rid of nasties. It don't take much, but you need some in the still some where. I think it works best in the upper vapor areas of the still.

I don't do multiple runs. I'm either after flavor or I'm after a neutral. So it's either pot for flavor or reflux for neutral. In pot mode I do sometimes use one small plug of copper run up just under the cooling tubes as it does cut down on the sulfites, nasty smelling stuff. Before I put oak in I usually cut to 90 proof.
