"Hi all, I am as green as grass, but I got some S.C. shine in me last yr and have the bug BAD!! I prowled around online for months and found this site a cpl weeks ago. I have my eye on the 15 gal HC unit, I plan on using a turkey fryer burner as heat. I live in town! Grew up on the farm, but wife wont hear of it.
I have a nice 20'x12' shed with tall roof in back yard, if I ferment in there and then cook how much odor will it put off? Im an hour from the old home place but dont wanna pack all the stuff there then bring it back when im done. Leaving it there isnt an option.
I'll have lots more questions, but thats my first one...how do you control odor of ferment/distill or is it gonna be a big problem. Oh yeah, does a corn mash put off more odor than a sugar mash? I recall dad makin wine in the house as a kid, but no one dared say anything to him bout the smell or you got the belt!!
Thanks"

"I use an out building in my backyard and it's about 30 feet from neighbors on both sides. The most smell I've had came from cooking a fruit mash in pot still mode and it smelled kinda like I was baking. I also use a propane burner and don't find it very expensive at all. I get about 6 to 8 uses out of a 20Lb tank. After you get a boil on you turn the heat down to where it's almost off, just enough to keep it bubbling. Good luck!"

"I have a wooden floor I'm working on so I went down to home depot and picked up one of their concrete boards, I think they are about 4'X5'X 1/4"". I cut it into 4 pieces and stack them on top of one another. Makes a very sturdy heat barrier."
