Well couldnt wait till Thursday so decided to do the 3rd gen SF in the pot mode today. Sniffed around and found some leftover clear liquid in some jars and dumped that in there too. One small jar smelled like acetone so I left that one out. Left in one one plug of copper and a small maybe 1/4 plug I try to keep stuffed in above where the cooling lines do their crisscross routine at the top. Anybody got any secret tricks on keeping the copper from falling down n the boiler? In the reflux mode the bottom column segment has a screen..but the pot segment dont have that nice feature. I unfurled the plug and rewrapped it looser and seemed to snug it up some. Maybe it will stay put. Got the sugar water and lemon juice on the stove to start Gen 4. Will report back if I happen to live over it. lol.

Thanks Jones. The one plug I re-wrapped looser and made fit tighter seemed to stick in there ok. In fact this morning had to bang the column on the floor to make it fall down enough to grab it. Will snag the washer if it looks like there is a bunch of pot stilling in my future. Now I have to put it all back together to get ready for the next reflux run. No rest for the wicked as they say..lol.

"Bigwheel,

How did it go in the Pot mode? I was thinking of using that for the UJCM and then add it to the other wash and run that in reflux. I was just wondering on the time it took and if it ran ok."

Well still aint decided on how it went...lol. I can tell the sniff test is gonna be a challenge on all those jars..now the cloudy ones are a no brainer. Aint worked up the courage to go give it the final whiff yet. The run itself went quite a bit faster than refluxing but not by a great deal. Again the impediment is the hotplate..heated up a little faster but not by much. Did not notice any big increase in volume of output. Sounds like a great plan on the UJCM. Shame to reflux something that tastes good or so the smart fellers say anyway. Tearing it down and reincarnating it as a re-fluxer is going to be a pain in the coola I can already tell. First bit of good advice on this hobby is to have a dedicated pot still and a refluxer as separate entities. Think that was some good advice looking back on it. Best of fortunes on your extractions.

Can't seem to get it any larger.....How are you ole boys posting those larger pic??????? Anyway......its 3/4 in copper tube coming off of my 12 qt pot, therm at the top of my column, makes the bend and have a cooling tower, tap water in tap water out the faster the cooler....works like a champ! 45 degree angle gives it a bit of surface reflux. Actually balanced pretty well too.

Always good to have a shot in the AM just to get the heart started pumping propaly:) I have around 10 gallons of cornmeal tomater paste along with 20 lbs sugar which is ready to run..but I am still trying to figger out some brilliant way to brace up the cheesy hotplate so it do not squash itself flat. I also got nosey grand chillins lurking about. Makes me nervous. They all know how to call crime stoppers. Maybe wait till they go home to do the evil deed. I still got plenty of drinking hooch. No need to rush dont guess.

Well I have heard rumors of folks using marbles but I thought it was mainly for packing the column on copper refluxers. Not sure a person should be packing a pot still full of marbles. Might get a second opinyawn if any Exspurts show up around here...lol.

Well I have been giving this topic some deep thought..which is highly dangerous. Few marbles might not hurt it. Would give you a little reflux action or seems so. Should get a more pure end product...course person using a pot still should not be too anal retentive finicky about purity or they wouldnt be using it. They in it for the flavor supposedly. Would cause higher temps and pressures in the boiler as that devilish alchyhol laden vapor fight its way up the column and bump into the marbles and thrash around a bit and some it fall back in the tank etc. Would take longer to collect it. Just trying to cover all the bases here. Still voting for skipping the marbles:) Now you could put the marbles in the boiler so to help prevent blowing hooch out of the blow hole. Us sophisticated types got a special little chain for that purpose...or think that is what it is for. Kindly keeps us posted on the adventure.
