I totally agree with yall, if you do everything right you may not need filtering. But, what about those who haven't got it down to perfection yet. Activated carbon can be a life saver, and save ya some money. I am not trying to take anything away from the Art of Distilling, but filtering is apart of it. If you want to be good at anything you do, you invetigate all avenues. Alot of folks seem to be stuck on one aspect of distilling, you need to try different things!

Well the whole point of those who practice Artisan Distillation is to produce a product that is better than anything commercially available. otherwise whats the point? Rot gut alcohol is dirt cheep, a lot cheaper than making your own." |

Just to add one more little snippet......ya know Jack Daniels carbon filters their hooch but Jim Beam does'nt. (They all store in burnt kegs) I can really pickup the difference, one really has a bite and the other seems alot smoother. It may just be me but try it and see what you taste. You can get those little bottles for 3 or 4$ each. Again when I'm fillin the keeper jugs I dont filter anymore but it is still the ----to each his own-- montra. If storeing on carbon makes ya feel warm and fuzzy then go with it.
