My first time out was terrible. Had a back-woods recipe for making 55 gallons, without specifics - my guesswork on the specifics didn't work. I also failed miserable maintaining a constant temparature. I have the Extractor II Series Reflux still using the copper mesh. Somebody sent me a basic recipe - any mentors out there want to hold my hand and walk me from complete novice to accomplished distiller? I sure hope so.

There are several possible reasons that you had a problem with maintaining a constant temperature. First, what did you use as a heat source, and was the run done inside or out? Cycling of your heat source or breezes are the two most common causes. Foaming of the product into the column, or overfilling the kettle to where expansion during heating will move some liquid into the column are also common with new distillers. There is even the possibility that your column packing is too tight, or uneven, which I have seen cause problems- albeit rarely.
