Maybe it would be feasable to heat to a semi boil with the propane, switch and distill with the hotplate? Obviously, taking care to avoid knocking stuff over and burning yourself. I personally have never switched midway, being a loyal hotplate user, but the idea of a rapid ,or more rapid, boil intrigues me.

IT intrigues us all i would suspect that tjis is a case of the uninsulated column though a s rick said Let us know how it turns out

what do you insulate the column with?

I used 3 1/2' fiberglass insulation, 16' because I had it, strapped oith electrical tape. Once, I used a heavy bath towel wrapped several times. I've even heard cow paddies will work.

At Lowes, self sticking, foil back pipe insullation, works great, no fire hazard for us propane users and is easy and WORKS!!!! Jimbull
