"Plumbed tower cooling a bit differently for compactness and neatness. Using six 90 degree 1/2"" I.D. elbows from Lowes, I cut, then heated in (very) warm water the included thick wall 1/2"" hose material so it would fit the elbows. When cooled off, they are not coming back off. No clamps necessary on the barbed fittings, only at the non-barbed tower cooling tube stubs.

Much neater, works great."

"Thanks for the clamp advice, but these compression hose clamps are unusually strong and the hose twice the wall thickness of what you get at Lowes. The clamp tension is considerable on this oversize Nalgene hose (not rubber hose).

Being that the cooling system is low pressure, I've not seen one leak and have tried with reasonable force to pull the hoses off the tower with no release. Maybe I am lucky.

The PVC ball valve is plumbed to control my tower cooling flow only. You want full flow cool water (before the valve) into the condenser unit to condense anything entering the condenser. Once in the condenser the vapor is no longer in the reflux cycle and needs to be condensed or is lost to atmosphere. Reflux only occurs in the tower.

At my altitude, tower temperature control is very easy at 77.3C and gives a perfect flow rate. Once the heads are off, the temperature stabilizes easily with the hot plate at a setting I have determined (not wide open) and a set coolant flow. Again, once the heads are off, with my heat and cooling set, it just runs until the tails (temp spikes up). Then I shutdown the heat.

This reflux still is very easy to control. Thanks for the hints. My ""distilled water"" has been as perfect as it gets. I've been very satisfied.

My next mod is to build a closed cooling system and better adaptation of the hotplate for stability.

Have a great week!"

"i do gutter cleaning and use chain to direct drips if i cant patch them so it just came to me use like twine somthing not too thick or itll be hard to tie tight enough and i got enough to tye it then drape into the top of my keg you can kinda see it here
