It is a questionable process. Some folks say to just add a little more grain to the recipe for the same results.

Now i have the heat element and drain valve installed. I'm waiting for the temperature control. The water level gauge, thermo well and on/off switch are next.

A ranco with a remote bulb stuck in a thermowell. I was thinking of a PID but mounting the pid itself would be a PITA. I have great twist off temp probes for the pid but i thought that mounting the unit itself wou be a pain. PLUS it would need a relay and too many exposed wires.
This tank is just to supply 170 deg F. sparge water."

Turns out it was not leaking from there BW. A support for the plastic sight glass tube was leaking:). Plumbers tape again. All done till i get the ranco control. The ranco will be able to hold a 1 degree diferential.
This kind of control even though it can be set for 1 degree differential is not good for the mash tun or the still because steady consistant heat is needed there. Thats where a dual elements or dual voltages and a router control comes into the picture. We can not use bimetal thermostats except when just heating the plain water.

I'm still intrigued by your dual element idea. BigGrin"
