Hello Sir..hearty welcome. Think you sure can use flour. One of our fellow forum members posted a movie of a boutique micro distiller using rye flour and enzymes to make rye whiskey. In this movie they dumped 750 pounds of the flour. Regular old whole wheat flour was generally considered a way to make vodka following similar procedures. Have you snagged a hooch maker yet? If so whatcha got? If not whatcha considering? Thanks.

I thought that was the answer. I see recipes for corn, cornmeal, cornflakes etc. I am thinking of doing a rye, and getting any around here besides flour is almost impossible. Gonna be using 5 gallon water jug for wash. I haven't got a setup for a still yet, but will be going with a pot type, as I want to keep a lot of the flavors. Small batches to start and we'll see where it goes from there.

My last mash i ground all my corn/rye/malted barley to flour. The first batch i mixed in a little at a time and stirred it until it was all mixed. The second i just kind of dumped all the corn and rye in at once and had quite a bit of clumping. Took a long time to work out the lumps and i for sure did not get them all. Both batches yeilded me my highest starting SG with all grain yet at 1.07 or just around 10% alcohol potential. Pitched one thurs and one friday. Thursdays looks almost done.
