" Finally got the digital stat.. Will be adding an on/off switch. Adding a SSR because the control is rated for 16 amps and the 2kw heat element will draw almost 17 that at 120 volts. The control will only be switching the relay which is rated at 40 amps on the line side. Also adding a thermowell for the sensor. The relay will allow me to switch to a larger or diferent voltage heat element and both the control and relay can operate at both 120 and 240 volts. After that a trip to home depot for wire and a plug"

"I just came from home depot. and i had excellent help for everything. SHOCK!!!!! I got 2 4 foot lengths of #12 stranded and a 5 ft. piece of #12 stranded flexable for the plug. I need some input on non toxic silicone. I used 10 stainless bolts and related hardware to mount the various controll components. Each 1/8X1 1/4 inch bolt has a small oring on the inside of the tank. The o ring is compressed with a flat washer and a nut. As a precaution against leaking, i want to put a dab of silicone between the o ring and the inner wall of the pot. I am thinking of fish tank silicone becaust it says non toxic. Does any one have any better suggestions??"

Scotty, is the Ranco unit mounted to the pot? Do you have any insulation between it and the pot? Just curious.

I have spacers about 3/16 of an inch on all the bolts for all the mounted items. Do you think the air space is sufficient. I'm going to re check the spec. sheet about ambient temperatures now that you have brought the subject up. I just looked at the spec sheet. It says 140 deg F ambient. I think i shal slip some insulation under the controll. Thanks for the tip. :)"

Silicone are usually rated at about 400 degrees. BW i'm still very unsure at this point"

"The last attempt, the ranco mounts still leaked, I just went to the hardware store for longer stand offs larger washers etc. The mounting system is a lot more sturdy and has lots more silicone on the outside. Ill test it after 3 hours and then put the insulation back even though the control sits 1/2 inch off the pot. I intend to insulae the whole pot as soon as it is no longer leaking. HOBBYS # #$ ^%$# "

I know when I was trying to figger out the best strategy to mount elements in the keg some said you need to bang out a flat spot with a two by four. Just trying to cover all the bases here. Kindly keeps us updated. Definitely BW-- i compensated with rubber washers and silicone. Looks like i got it now. I THEEENK"

" It even works. The wiring will be cleaned up and properly insulated for safety. The orange thing is a portable thermowell. A permanent thermowell will be installed next and that long sensor wire will be trimmed."

Going to test the pot outside then if it passes ill rig for single malt irish whiskey."
