Just wondering, is a galvanized duct safe to us as the initial column? Just seeing if there's anything I can use from "stuff" I have scrounged over the years. And the wife calls me a pack rat! BigGrin

Hecketh no. Galvanized metal and heat do not play well together with humans and or animuls. It would at the least be enough to ruin a person's reputation. Hey maybe you could pard up with the fella wanting to use high fructose corn syrup in place of sugar to make the commercial vodky. Run that through a galvanized still be nearly enough to make some folks think about quitting drinking. Maybe get some funding from mad mothers etc. Sure a smart feller could see some possibilities here.

Ok BW, I get your point! LOL! Those Mad Mothers don't like me enough already! Is it the zinc that's the problem?

I guess its zinc or something similar. You have to get the stuff purty hot to have a problemo. In fact one old drunk welder tole me the only way you can get it hot enough to hurt you is with a cutting torch or start trying to weld on it. I would not take that factoid to the bank without some independent confirmation..but sounds reasonable. The stuff is just not used in many applications involving heat or corrosive materials food drink etc. Know aint no right minded bbq cook in the world who like a bbq pit made out of it. That should be a good clue.

I can't argue with that BW. Thanks for the advice, I'll stay away from it.

"Some mighty fine words of wisdom in this thread. :)

And by the way, fine civil words at that. At another forum, which I won't mention but the initials are homedistiller.org, people would have roasted you over hot coals just for asking such a question. Nice to see that don't happen round here very often."

Very perceptive Fritz...that is why a lot of folks hang out over here. Something about those rude yankee techies over at that off branded place which could drive normal folks plumb nuts..lol. The HMFIC over there accused me of being a snide bull shitter..sniff sniff.

Hey Scotty now what should a person do who happens to find themselves in the unenviable position of being the proud owner of a galvanized hooch maker? Thanks. Now I dont have one but sure there is some out there in the big krewlish world who do. How about our Ruskie and Indian pals etc? Who will supply the whiskey craving of the teeming masses of Calcutta once we make these things obsolete?

Well think a person needs to get the big picture on these type of issues. Environmental impact study and stuff like that.

Perhaps suggesting lots of reading and study before taking or giving advice is the necessity."

Now that strategy could confuse folks and make them think they are back at the no name off branded place where all the ignorant rude yankmes hang out. I could see it happening.
