I bought a piece of copper pipe to extend. I am going to use black label turbo yeast which instructs 13 lbs of sugar for 7 gallon wash. For Rum should I am thinking 13 lbs of brown sugar and one pint bottle of molasses. sound OK? fermentation ok in a room that gets some indirect sunlight? Should be getting fermenter starter kit soon - will try a water only run on the pot still this weekend to clean it out and test. getting excited about a first try at Rum-making

John: Sounds good. Just make sure you use dark brown sugar. You want that flavor. Have fun and keep us posted on how it turns out. Cheers

More newbie questions I received the 'bronze starter kit' - I must be a dope but don't get how the siphon works. I have used fuel transfer siphons in the past that all have a built in squeeze pump or some way to pump by hand - can somebody explain how this ultimate siphon works? The airlock - the small chamber gets filled with water right? I received one meter - think that I should have gotten 2 - the one I have I think is the alchometer has red stuff in bottom and numbers go to 100. to test alcohol % you just put this thing into a cylinder filled with liquid and let it float in it - wait a while and watch how high the red liquid rises up? What is the hydrometer for ,missing in my kit, - how do you use that ? THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP

I found some material on the web that explained my questions above - no need to reply - I don't want to waste anybody's time. I guess trial and error will be my best teacher as is usually the case. CHEERS
