How long shouls a person leave maple or hickory chips in the oven and what temp? This wood is fresh cut, RCM

You sure Mama gonna go for you smoking up her kitchen? Aint you got a gaseous grill with a side burner? That is where all my chippy toasting gets done. Throw the offending chips in a perforated turkey frying basket and shake it over the flame like popcorn till its done enough to suit. Now at the risk of getting Yeah Yeah back in the nag mode..aint never tried it with Maple. If you dont own a gas grill you should get one..lol.

Not sure I would use hickory might make your drink taste like beef jerky. I have done the maple and also did maple and oak together both came out good. Try just a qt of the hickory and see what comes of it.Then be sure to let the rest of us know what you think so we will know to try it or not. I am with BW. Do it out on the grill raped in foil 30min over med heat will give you a good med to dark.

Wow thanks 24. I heard of that rolled in tinfoil deal but done forgot where and how..lol. I was on the verge of testing toasted Pee Can as a hooch addictive at one time. That is a kissin cousin to Hickory ya know? That is when I gave up fighting with the Bourbon jars and forced myself into liking proofed white dawg. Life has went a lot smoother since that time.

You know one of the great things about makin your own. I went out to the man cave opened the frig and found a coke had turned into a bomb. Got a bucket of hot water and started the task of unloading the frig. I found a jar of apple pie with a chunck of apple more or less in one peice. Not sure how old it was but taste great once filtered. Found a jar of cherry whiskey that was crap and a couple of jar that I am not sure what was in them, just know they was hooch.Was getting ready to make a still run so I did the right thing and recycled the jars of crap and unknowned. Now I have a half gal of white dog that is ready for a little air. Got to love a hobby that you can mess up like that and still come out good. Hope you all had a great weekend.

Wow..sounds like some fortuitous scenarios befell you. Good job! We are having a tolerable weekend..thanks for the good hopes. Hope yours went as great as it sounded from the narrative. Fact is...the Sun is bound to be over the Yard Arm somewhere on earth. Time to have a nip..Salud! :)

Well if that is the one we discussed earlier which the Wolfman say needed more sugar? If so it looked good to me at the time only too much cornmeal and not enough sugar. Did you get that fixed up? Or..was you a hard head? lol I dont mind wasting a little cornmeal for a worthy cause. Low sugar can make you come out with...gasp..shudder...WEAK HOOCH. That get a person strung up in Tejas..lol. Prob legal in Okiehoma and Colorada.
