"Hey all, I've been using my unit in reflux mode, and need to clean the copper rolls.

Last time I did this I soaked them in vinegar for about 3 days, it made alot of blue colored vinegar but was hoping for something faster.

What do you use to clean ur copper??

Thanks"

"I do several things, not saying my way is best though....

I dont remove them every run but after each run I squirt the hose down into the tower after I cook and do indeed wash out some black looking stuff.

after several runs -no real time span-- I remove and give a good squirt while squeezing and squishing in my hand. Your hand will get black with this method and you'll see lots of stuff come off. They stay black but still work from what I've found.

Then after Ive washed and squished and squieezed them and my mind says ok thats enough I replace them. They're pretty cheap and after removing them they get kinda torn up but of course will still work. I have never done the vinegar wash so I dont know if that turns them back to shiny new copper. I did try boiling them once and did'nt see much improvment in the color or the preformance. So if this thread gets worked hard and others have found other things that work I will prolly try it."

"Have tried the vinegar soaks and it do not help much of anything. Here is an old post by Bayou-Ruler which addresses the issue and bound to be superior to vinegar.

>Quote>

>Soakem in table spoon of citric acid and 1 gallon of water for 30min - 1 >hour, then rinse with baking soda water and the look brand >new........................

DrDanCan also mentioned a strategy he uses which seems like involves boiling vinegar and oxyclean. Maybe he will jump in an freshen up the memory banks."

"Thanks guys for the info, the vinegar does make them brighten up color wise, and after 3-4 days the vinegar turns blue, so i know something happens. I was looking for a quicker solution so i dont have my rolls sitting in a bowl of vinegar for half a week and the house smells like a massengail commercial site!! lol.

Any others wanna chime in on this ?"

"I give them a quick rinse then drop them in a bucket of hot water over night. Then toss them like streamers across the clothes line to dry in the sun. It's a lazy man's chore, but I haven't had any problems.

What is a clothes line? lol. Where you from..Mayberry? Us City Slickers do not own those. Real lazy boys just do not look at the copper. Aint nothing in the owners manuel say to dig it out of there and soak in exotic substances. It may be a make work project for bored folks. Just trying to cover all the bases here.

Elementary my Dear Watson..Elementary..lol. Is Helen still looking purty hot? Aunt Bea? Now back in the good old days when we lived there..if you hung stuff on the clothes line sometimes a dirty bird would fly over and deliver a load of poo to the freshly washed items. Do that ever happen to your stuff? Thanks.

"Ok, heres what I did, after an internet search I put a gallon of hot water in a bucket, added a quart of vinegar, and about 1/2 cup of salt and mixed well. I added the rolls and they got shiny in a hurry. Its been about 2 hours and they are ready to take out and dry off.
Thought I'd pass this on."

Thanks. That seems to be the grand prize winner of the most painless sounding methods currently available. Everybody has salt and vinegar most likely.

Thanks Farmin. I took mine out and ran them through the dishwasher but they looked the same. Then I got to thinking when they are in the the pipe and getting passed by hot hooch what did I think the dish washer could do for them. Thanks again I will have to give it a try next time I pull them out.

Yeppers it sorta like a kidney cleanser. What do a person use to wash a bar of soap etc? Thats why smart folks just do not bother to look at it.

Well BW, I guess i could turn a blind eye to it, but soon id be running trash, and if i drink enough of that trash id probably start hanging around this site too much and answering every post on here multiple times even if i have nothing to say, but it sure would drive my numbers up.

Then I guess i'd swear my trash is the best thing ever made, and how no one else on here can make it as good as i can, how my method of making it is the best and anyone who differs from me doesnt know his ass from a hole in the ground and how cleaning those pesky copper rolls are for stupid, ignorant ......... (insert your favorite ethnic or geographical group here).

And MAYBE if I kept that up long enough the knowledgeable people that were hanging around here and had more than 4 months experience running this stuff might decide to go elsewhere, or not post as much, figuring I would respond with some insulting, off the wall, misinformed, or misguided information.

BUT, the whole reason for this wonderful adventure is to make a premium product, if I wanted something that tasted like Taaka 100 proof I'd go buy it.

Soooooo, if the copper rolls show up nice and clean, and running it makes them nasty, black, oily, and just plain disgusting, then it seems to me the thing to do is to find a reasonable way to clean them.

But hell.....what do I know???????"

TOLERANT???????? What have you been smoking BW? In the past 7 months you have insulted more groups of people, either based on race, color, creed, religion, or by any other measure you want to use, than any one person on any one web forum I have ever been a part of. Obviously the Administration
or Moderator isnt doing much monitoring, because most web forums will kick your butt off for the slurs you have posted.

Now I'm a died in the wool TEXAN, born and bred, but I was raised with more manners than to insult or slight someone I dont know just because I dont agree with them or they're not from my part of town.

I understand some of it is probably due to a little overindulgence on your product, and a lack of time away from the PC. As i recall you've come a long way since you first posted your problems with a supposed clogged column to what your making now, so for that I salute you.

But, I also have watched this web forum get practically help hostage by you and your opinions and have seen others stop posting and offering useful advice and just fade away, or go to another site. So their absence with their years of experience is our loss, not gain, so you might think of that before you post any more insulting or degrading post.

Respectfully,
Farmin"

Standard cure for this type dielemma is if you consistently dont like what somebody has to say..dont read it..just skip over it. Ever thought of that strategy? Would be a lot easier and less stressful than following the standard liberal operating procedure of attempting to control the speech and thought patterns of others. Give it a try and report back thanks.

I try to stay away from the petty arguments and let people work things out nicely, but please remember that most are here to learn and share knowledge, so let's play nice. :)
