Ok guys you have helped me so much just to get to this stage! I have am fermenting now using the recipe off of the suggested 48 hour turbo yeast.
When i go to distill i plan on putting the mash in my still ,i have a keg as a base with a reflux column, then bringing it up to 172F and discarding the first 50mls. If the temp goes over 180F do i need to discard any distilate i just made? I want to be vary carefull with this as it can create poisons or i believe wood alchohol. Help me out guys and thank you for all your previous help.

This all depends on what you have fermented to make your wash! If you used a grain or fruit based wash, then yes, you should discard the first 50-100ml produced ,this contains the methyl alcohol you DON'T want!, Then collect everything until the wash gets thin ,watery,, of course, these 'tails' may give you a colossal hangover, so be discreat in deciding when to stop collecting the distilate! If you used a pure sugar/water/nutriment/yeast wash, then don't worry about the meth, you will produce so little, you won't even be able to detect it, leave alone measure it!

Thank you for the reply, so i should not have to discard any of the distilate exept for the tails end when it comes to a slow tricle? how do i know when it is time to stop collecting distilate? and can the tails end that gives you massive hangovers be used in a different run?

IF you are distilling from a 'SUGAR and WATER' based wash, you do not need to discard anything at the start of the run. As for the tails, generally, you start collecting the 'heart' or good stuff once the temp reaches 178F and stop after 180F. You probably should stop collecting the 'tails' after 185F. You can also use the tase method, when the distillate becomes thin and watery tasting, stop collecting. All you will get after this point is water and unwanted fusal oils, blah! YES, you certainly can collect the tails and keep them to add to your next run! You will recover whatever alcohol that was leftover in the prior run's 'tails' then you simply discard the unwanted stuff as before.

Oops! I meant to say 175F IF you are distilling a fruit or grain wash! If you are working with sugar, water and a good yeast, don't toss anything out at the start, just watch the tails!
