My second batch of wash is ready and got it heating up as we speak. This time no silicon to taint the wash and moved up from a 2qt to an 8qt pot... New worm and all new fittings etc. Pretty excited about this batch and get to test all my new equipment. Been about 30min and at 120F right now and everything seems to be going just fine. Will fill in more later once finished.

Well didn't go so good. My temps got up to around 180 and still not a drop so I recoated everything with my flour paste to make sure of no leaks.. 190 and nothing! I cranked the heat and it quickly bubbled out of the rivet that has the handle on the lid.. So i had a leak the whole time. I fixed the leak and let it mellow out and got about a half cup of likker  Finishing off my last quart or so and see what I can squeeze out of it. Well Guess I know for my next run to seal even the bolt holes.. figured they would come pretty tight but guess not. Lesson learned!

After properly sealing it I ran my last qt or two and got as much as I did from my 8qt's .. So I about lost all of it to the air on this run. What I did collect proofed at 132.

Well..this is how some of us learn stuff..lol. Glad you got it under control and now have some medicinal supplies laid in for the cooler months. Cabin fever and chill bane season coming up ya know? Not to even mention the dreaded Collie-wobbles ailment.

Yes sir.. I've seen some posts somewhere about letting it air out a day or three to lose some of the smells... Would I leave this open to the air.. or close it up and just let it sit for a few? This batch really isn't to bad though I can defiantly tell I used a lot of CM in the taste lol. It's not to bad prob age this bit on the plum and see what it does.. Cut it down some and sip sip.

In my view airing out is one of the best friends us hobbyists have at our disposal. I dont even do any finalized sniffing for at least two days. Jars covered wtih a paper towel in the mancave. After final sniffing and combining top secret ratios..actually I just pour all the non stinky stuff in the keeper jars) and move it in the house where it gets covered with a paper towel held in place over the top with a rubberband. I like to go another week there if time not of the essence. When I ever get to proofing some..I like to go another week because sometimes even good proofing water can bring evil smells. Especially the plastic jugs of distilled water. Took me two weeks of airing to get that plastic stink out of the hooch one time. Now some of the rich boys on here use coffee filters? That sounds a little nuts to me. Those thing are high..and mama keeps them counted I think. I do not like to get bursted.

Sounds good buddy got it covered with paper towel and a hair band from the old lady.. Don't have any rubber bands.

Feel your pain on the lack of rubber bands. That can happen to us all. Glad Mama donated her hair band. I find them crazy things laying everywhere but did not see any which looked like it fit a quart jar. I best do some experimenting on this deal. Do you reckon we have smaller pony tails than yall?
