Ok think we was at the point of trying to talk you out of buying the hooch maker with the heating coils built into the bucket. Don't do it!! I would also forget the combo hot plate plus internal elements plan. If you are going to the trouble to get the NPT fittings..no use in cluttering up the scene with a hotplate cept maybe as emergency back up. Two 110 1500 watt elements will bring a 10-12 gallons up to workable temps in 45 mins..which would be about how long it take the hotplate to get itself warmed up good.

Hi everyone,
thanks for all the rsponses. just finished reading "The Compleat Distiller". This is a great book and would highly recommend it. It left with a whole bunch of other questions. I'm now reading the "Making Gin And Vodka" book and it looks to be another good read. Thanks again, I am learning alot.

Sorry..some of us stays too busy hooching and playing compooter to read books. Thanks for the recommendations. Will keep an eye peeled for any bookworm types who might want to do some reading. How are we coming coming on the project to acquire yourself a suitable hooch making moochine? Enquiring minds need to know this kinda stuff. Now hope this scenario dont correspond to the old admonition..Dont go near the water till you learn how to swim. That was one of my dearly deceased Daddy's favorite old adages. Bound to be a moral to the story some where.

I'm one of those people who researches things to death before I do them so I'll read everything I can get my hands on. This is something totally new to me so the research is good. I watched the History Channel's Moonshiners series and thought I would like to give it a try. I started doing some internet research and that is what led me to this site (it was the link from the Brewhaus site). Once here the info started pouring in. From reading the first book and a few hundred posts on this and the HD forum I now know that due to my undying love for all things vodka that the best still type for me is of the reflux type and if I wanted the whiskey or rum type alcohols a pot still would be a better choice. I also know that the Brewhaus ps2 HC would be an ideal still as it offers both choices. From research on that still that it is better than most out there and that Brewhaus is the best to work with. I know that getting the larger kettle now while a bit more expensive is a better choice than getting it later. I know that getting 2 110v internal heaters (thanks to you) is a better choice than going with a hotplate. Now just about 3 weeks ago I knew none of this and if I had the cash available would have bought the wrong equipment and wound up being pissed off. To me the research (including reading books) is worth its weight in gold. I have no plans to purchase until about February as that is when I'll have the funds but by then I'm sure do to my extensive research that I will buy the best I can for my money and turn out a top quality product.
