Does anyone no of a way to put a gin basket in between a 2 piece column ? I'd like to try some botanicals infused into the hooch.

Hey dieselduo,
Are you talking about the ps2 hc column? If so then it would be good to know as this is something I would like to do in the future also. Hope you get some responses.

What about welding a couple of 3 inch couplings to some sort of metal container-- 2 small stainless pots welded together . Also why not just an extension to the tower that you fill with your materials.

Hey scotty,
The extra extension is a great idea. I'm assuming (and please correct me if I'm wrong--still learning) that this would be run in pot still mode. Just take the reflux section off (the top part-the one with the condenser in it) and replace it with the new section. Hang a tea bag set up with your botanicals in the new top section. I could be wrong but I think with the 3 inch column on the ps2 hc this could work. Have not really done the research on this so I'm just guessing. Let me know if I have it wrong.
Thanks, Maddawgs
On edit I think this may actually be some form of an essential oil distiller--yes--no?

"Visualize this....seperate your column (now 2 pieces) take a piece of copper - which ever size is appropiate - lay in the middle to fill the gap. On that inserted piece weld or soldier a ferrel on each end and then use a tri-clamp or sanitary fitting on each end to clamp it to the top and bottom once you reconstruct your tower. Of course you will need the ferrel for each end of the column too..... and if I could draw this may be easier to show my thoughts, this is in fact how one of the big boys adds a gin basket to the tower.

So the materials you will need to do this are..
4 ferrels of the proper size..
the extra piece of copper of the proper size...
2 tri-clamps or sanitary clamps of the proper size...
and a plumbers soldiering torch, but not a little propane gas deal as it will not get hot enough to soldier 2 inch copper. But Map gas will. About 35$ at HD or Lowes. It really is just that simple, or just order it and the clamps from Brehaus supply."

I found one here but they only sell the whole thing but I'm going to try to make one to fit in between the two pieces http://www.milehidistill...e-tower-with-gin-basket/

Just use the bottom section of your tower and don't run any cooling water in the tower only in the condenser. If one column section won't hold enough material the buy a second section. I think one ection would be plenty for what you want to do.

Essential oil distiller? Yes, that's exactly what your doing, except without the intention of seperating the oil but instead adding it to the alcohol for flavor.

Have Fun.
