I read a couple of days ago about somebody asking about "Red Hot Shine" After looking at all the complicated suggestions I figured that I try the candy red hot recipe. Once I found them every thing else was easy. No muss no fuss. 6-oz. of red hots, 1 Qt. 160 and five days of waiting. As long as you like red liquor, it does the job. Thanks to whoever. I might add this mix to my specials.

Could just use cinnamon oil and sugar. Avoid the red color.

Have Fun.

Thanks, good info. I've found that there's many ways to make it. I don't like it very high proof, just like it as a shooter...

100 proof is all you need and it tastes better...IMHO! You cant buy 160 proof likker for a reason, think about it it'll come to you??????

I just tried a batch of this recipe, sort of. I diluted my 94 percent neutral down to 80 proof(2quart jar) added 1 bag of red hots and 2 oz. of glycerin. After 2 weeks it is still amazingly strong but very good mouth feel, no real burn in your mouth at least not any more than redhots....lol but chilled in the freezer before company gets there it makes a GREAT shooter to start off a gathering! I think it is better than Hot Damn because it isn't syrupy and after the shot the flavor dissipates pretty quickly instead of staying with you for an hour like the commercial varieties.

Bacardi sells 151 which is darn close and Everclear is 188 proof.

"Several states (such as Florida) have banned the sale of Everclear and yes lots still sell 151. But how many of us do shots of 151 on a regular basis? With most of the candy flavored likkers we make shots are the preferred method of consumption and if it is for you too then great. IMHO all the the recipes we make will taste much better at a lower ABV and if they taste really good we can have more if its at a lower proof.
That,s just my opinion of course."

"A straw man is a type of argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position. To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by replacing it with a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition (the "straw man"), and to refute it, without ever having actually refuted the original position"

I never mentioned anything about taste preference. You said you can't buy that proof, I simply stated that you actually can.

Yea, I did a batch and I normally don't like the sweet stuff but it was OK. Might make a batch to give away at Christmas. I also tried something new "Peppermint Snots" A little cinnamon oil with simple syrup and some 150. Taste better than it sounds.

I took a shot of Everclear once and it took three days for my taste buds to recover!
Also we slipped a bottle of that stuff into a punch bowl at a party once and within an hour it was very quiet there, potent stuff indeed.
