I just got done my first 2end run of shine. The first one fremitted awsome. 2nd one had problems from the start. Only thing different from the two was a 1/2 cup sugar. My first jar of distiling is ok and burns when its lit in a spoon. 2nd jar tends to be weak. Fremition tends to go on for 14 days. With corn surgar mash. I did just get my achool meter and hydromiter in the mail today but forgot to buy a test tube. But i tryed to use the tube it came in. With that it only showed 40% achool. from the stuff coming out of the still. My next mash is complety differnt. I will be using turbo yeast/brown sugar/honey. See what happens. Also one more crazy thing i seen today i should ask. I bought alcotec 48 turbo super yeast. On the package it says add 1 sachet of yeast. Whats a sachet ? Well anyways ive found this fourm to be lots of help and thought id keep in touch.

If you're referring to the plastic ""tube"" that your hydrometer came in, you don't want to use that. Plastics can dissolve into your hooch creating an unsafe drink, so always stick with glass or stainless for safety reasons.

A ""sachet"" is just a fancy word for one of those little packets. That word always seems out of place to me. I just can't bring myself to say to my wife, ""Hey honey, would you bring me one of those sachets, please?"" Wink

BTW: You might want to look at getting a nice pyrex test cylinder. The cheap ones break real easy ... and when they do, they shatter and cast splinters all over the place ... I learned that the hard way. The pyrex are a bit more expensive, but they're very hardy ... and they don't shatter/splinter.

What type of still are you using? If you are straight potstilling you need to run it through at least twice to get a decent %.
