"This is a continuation form my road trip to JD distillery. I saw these on the front porch and remembered that I have one of the kegs on my porch at home the ole lady made me buy several years ago....the wheels are turnin now....I could make one of these -oh yeah no problem. The tour guide at the distillery said that if the kegs dont have a B stamped on the rivet holding them together then they are copies. Well of course I had to check and by damned its original. I'm still trying to get the photo of the keg on my porch to upload and when it does I'll post it. But here is what my next project is gonna be...oh yeah...   Not sure which configuration yet but we'll see."

"These are actual used kegs, you can see the bung on the one on the left. They just build em and pour urethane over em to keep use form the charcoal getting on our cloths of course. I think he said one keg makes two chairs but in my case I may need the whole keg just in case...hehehe

I like the Adirondack chair the best, but that's just me. It may be tougher to get out of, but the shape of it is just pleasing to my eye. "I'm sorry, I meant your eye!" (movie reference)

"Well I'm about to start my next project, its this chair thing. I took some pics to share and help me get this thing going. I know ya'll already know but there are no nails that hold these together just the bands. The lids have dowels that run through them but its all wood that touches likker. When the dissaemble started I thought I remembered the smell of this keg being kinda yucky but once it was opened man you could really get a whiff of the smooth smell of JD coming from it.
NOW I REALLY CANT WAIT..........anyway gonna post some pics for ya -- hope ya'll enjoy."

"This is a closeup of one of the staves and you can see the ---soak line---which shows how far the likker soaks into the wood, thats how it removes the oaky flavor if you will.  "

"Well it really did'nt take as long as I thought it would once you get ta goin. This is the frame with the bottom and the cutoffs laying there. Man those stave are REALLY DENSE oak. The tree must be almost green when they run em through the mill to shape them. I think those cuttoffs will add something really special to my likker as a oaking spice.  "

The frame is just 1"x4" yellow pine just cause its cheap at Lowes and if you see the clamps on the front --well I split it with a screw but I glued it back together so it'll be fine. Anyway after I get the urathane put on it and its dried I'm gonna see it I have enough barrel staves left over to make another one. I thnk so but just have'nt counted yet.

Oh and I know this has nothing to do with making likker but it did come from a whiskey keg so I hope nobody minds the thread.

I think they steam the staves in order to bend and shape them. You're in the "Just For Fun" section. We're good.
