"Hello all...I am basically at step one meaning that I have read through the forum (which is great) and read the Home Distillation Handbook that was suggested to me. I have a couple questions on how to get started and would appreciate any feedback at all. Thank you in advance!
I need three things correct? A fermenter (called ""gold starter kit"" on this site), a still (looking at the PSII HC), and a heat source
If I purchase all of these three things is this all I need to get started?
While I have read somewhat on all the different steps of the process, it is still a bit confusing because I don't understand all the terminology. However, with the purchase of the packages that I mentioned before, are there instructions for a beginner contained within?
I am just worried that I will spend all the money for these things, get them home, and not have the first damn clue what to do. Any thoughts on these things?
Oh, I guess it would be helpful to tell you that I am hoping to just make a simple neutral ( I think that's the word for clear liquour..ie vodka)

Thank you! HI Bud, That is all great eqipment and will allow you to creat a high abv nuetral like vodka . Mine was just shipped today. I would suggest reading a book called "the compleat distiller" This is a great book and will explain the entire process from start to finish. If you do a google search you should be able to find a pdf version. Maddawgs

the PS11 HC will make the best neutrals run in reflux and also makes a great pot still. As far as the ferment package you could save some bucks by just getting the bronze and a few more air locks and getting some food grade buckets and grommets from HD or Lowes

when fermenting, Make sure everything is CLEAN! then Sanatize, I use starsan. Temp on fernemtation is important along with Airation.

"Buy the hot plate for heat source I have tried both plate is the easiest to control with a router controler setup.
I think u can find the thread here or at homedistiller.Just run water to get the temps with the plate setup way easy this way."

Have A 1 INCH NPT COUPLING INSTALLED so you can go to the internal heat source later on.

If you get the 15 gallon boiler have 2 npt's installed. 2 internal elements will allow for a much faster heat up time. When you reach temp turn one element off and control the second the an rsc.
