I have a 110v 1650w element with a 20 amp controller on an 8 gal pot and works great for me. After up to temp I cut it down between low and medium depending on the flow

"I can attest first hand that the RSC'er does work, now the application might be altered and that might create a problem but they do work. If you decide to try one get on ebay, order one and they will bring it right to your door. There are several to choose form....

I bet no one meant they don't work....i bet they just don't like the method, again if the application is correct it will work so if your thinking this is what you want go with it -- I live mine and its easy to set it and then just standby while it does it job."

I hope you didn't infer the ""some say no"" from any of my recent comments on another thread to Md ... especially my desire to find a nice variac.:) If that's the case, my apologies for any confusion. I use an RSC and it does a fine job. I had some of my own issues, but nothing that was a show stopper.

I bought the MLCS 9410 20-Amp Heavy Duty Router Speed Control from ebay. Do i need to mod this with a heat sink to keep it from getting too hot and burning up. If so what do i need for that. I am only running 6 gallons so i may not need to add the heat sink... Just wanted to say thanks again in advance...u guys on here are awesome!!

You shouldn't need any mods. What size element are you using ?

"In my expirence any will do..I use a 4500watt 220 volt element. And to that I use 110/20 amp circut. Now you are thinking why....well I had 110 avaliable and I figgered that the bigger element would last longer since I'm using less electircity than it can stand.
The RSC'er is only the power ----regulator---if you will, it dose'nt increase it in any way it just controls the flow of juice up or down.

I put mine on constant and when I'm up to stillin temp I put it on variable and adjust the knob to the desired temp and letter go. Just a little FYI..."

So u are saying I can use a 220 volt wh element in a
110 volt outlet? As long as I don't exceed the Amps on the
Router controller

Yes,.... with 110 volts--- 15/20amp circut a 15/20 amp RSC'er will do just fine no matter what element you use because you will still only be utilizing 110 volts at 15 or 20 amps of current. Get it????

In the reverse, if you put 220 volts to a 110 volt element you can visualize that the element would burn out due to over powering the element.

I use a 15amp RSC'er on a 30amp 110 circut with a 4500watt 220 element. The juice is there but its not being drawn if you will, I have metered the element while in full power heatup and while in cooking and neither pulled more than 11 amps I think. So I found it to be a really safe setup.

Remember, the element is just the conduit of the heat being applied so for big heat they install big elements I just reversed the thinking and said, well if that element will take 220 volts and I'm only supplying 110 volts it should last twice as long since I'm only supplying half the juice. Whooooo hope all that helps ya."
