I have done just a little, little research and was wondering if anyone can recomend a site where I may find a strain of schizosaccharomyces pombe type yeast. Like I said a little research, but what I've read, this is what I want! Thanks!

Gee Patrick, I guess you're right, you MUST have done quite a lot of research to come up with this one. Quite frankly, I've never even heard of it but it does have an interesting name, schizosaccharomyces pombe, hmmmn! Sound a little like another sequel to the movie 'Aliens' or something. Could this be a sugar eater on steriods with a split personality to boot? Since you have already done some research on this , could you maybe share what it is with the rest of us dummies? It dosen't sound like a wine or beer yeast, so I'm guessing it must be a super alcohol tolerant strain, something like Gert Strand is rumored to be developing. Only his probably won't be available for another three years ,takes a while to grow an ever increasingly resistant yeast,! Actually, i think I will just run a search and see what I can come up with myself, just for fun! If I find a source, I'll post it for you ASAP! Thanks for a stimulating question. Spiritmaker

Actually the name is what turned me on to it as well. Any thing that starts with schizo must be some crazy stuff! Yes it is supposed to be alcohol tolerent ,under near perfect conditions, heat, nutrients..etc, to 20% abv. If I can get 2 gallons of alcohol for every 10 of mash, I'll be swimming in moonshine!!! Drink up!

Boy I sure hate to disappoint ya Patrick, but I must have checked out twenty or more links to Schizosaccharomyces and it looks as this is a particular gene manuplation that is still very much in development. It would appear that it simply is not available to the public yet and may not be for many months ,if indeed not years, to come! One interesting link ties it to treatment for candida ,a yeast infection usually commen to women, an I doubt that you really be 'swimmin' in that problem, huh? ,LOL, Soooo, ya might just wanna wait a bit on this one! Actually, as I mentioned before, Gert Strand is currently developing a strain that in time may be able to make ,ferment, up to 25% RIGHT IN TH BUCKET, BEFORE DISTILLATION!!! So get in line with me and maybe we can be among th first to try this out when he finally releases it. In th meantime, keep em coming, ya never know what someone will turn up. Spiritmaker

The mention of this has been on Gert's Turbo Yeast pages for a few years, and while it is easily done in a computer controlled environment, it is not quite so easy in a home environment. It is still a work in progress. I think that someone just saw this on Gert's site, and thought that it was just around the corner due to it being listed as something being in development.

Actually the book I got it from was printed in 1978,titled 'The life of yeasts' 2nd edition by Pfaff, et al. Now, not to date myself but that book is only 6 years younger than me! Surely by now someone must have it available. OOOOHHH so frustrating! I must have this schizo psycho yeast!!

Just an update, I found a couple of sites to get that certain strain, ,can't spell it now ,but a couple of things get in the way #1 you must provide proof that your 'facility' is equipped to handle biological cultures #2 it costs $192 USD per kilo. Doggone those eggheads for making hard on the rest of us!
