Well I have had my fun and will say it was just that, but due to the legality issues ,in my country, I will be disassemble my unit. I will say that what I have gained from this is will make my wine and beer that much better! I will continue to monitor the forum. And of course I found that carbon filteration is a great tool that can be used even on cheaply made commercial spirits to clean them up making them very accetable.

I plan to keep my unit, in case our law makers ever decide to rethink the law or the next ice age which ever comes first.

Thank you all for advise while I walked the line.

Brian

Well here is how I see it. It is not legal in my state. But if the ATF feels that their efforts to hunt down someone who is distilling merely liters of sprits for their own family consumption then I feel that their efforts are misplaced in this world. Please go after someone who is really hurting people.

I just saw a story on 20/20 or dateline or one of those that the ATF probably will not go after someone making a gallon or two at a time, but will for the guys deep in the woods with stills over 1000 gallons and sell it for a living.

Well Patrick, I wouldn't bet on that. It's true that the ATF isn't going to waste a lot of resources to hunt down the little guy with a crock pot or stove top pressure cooker, producing a couple hundred ML per run but, if you serve it the them on a platter ,give up too much personal information in forums such as this one, they just might choose to make an example of you! I'm a retired revenue agent and I know that if you wave a red flag in front of the 'Bull' you can expect to get the horn!
Notice I said RETIRED! That means I don't see or hear anything anymore!

So then, the moral here is, as Patrick is implying, keep it simple, keep it small and NEVER admit anything that can be traced back to you, be it by e-mail address or IP address. 'Handles' are nice, anonymous is better when playing with the law. Personally, I think the law is in need of revision ,no, make that a complete overhaul, when it comes to the home distiller who is providing for his personal use only!

So discretion may well indeed be the better part of valor in this case.
Your friend and sympathatic well wisher.

As a former law enforcement officer, if a complaint was recieved we had to investigate. So in saying that if by chance one of your family or friends that you happen to give a little to shares the information that you are in fact producing with 'crack-head' Bob, and Bob gets popped he will give up anything to reduce his charges. Making since yet?

The fewer that know the better, but you are never safe when you cross the line. Would a jury convict you? I don't know, if you are selling it sure, personal use I would have a hard time convicting you.
