"Hello everyone. I'm new here. Just wanted to ask a few questions to make sure I'm doing things right.

For now I have a small pot set up that's about 3L. All copper piping going right into a worm.

So here goes it...

I'm using the black label turbo yeast. Usually running straight sugar with some corn meal or even tried mashing up some banana and having it sit...

How much yeast should I be using? I've been just kinda eye balling it for now... Dunno if I'm using too much or not enough...

How long should I let this sit for? I've been letting it usually sit 2-3 days (whenever I see it stop bubbling and gurgling)

Also should I be stirring this while its doing its thing or just let it sit?

Lastly (for now) when I do run this I've been keeping it around 170-180ish how much should I dump when it starts flowing?

I've been guessing that since I'm going to yield a smaller amount due to the small pot I've been dumping about 4-6 ounces and keeping the next 8-10.

I don't have a hydrometer yet so I can't test it with accurate numbers but it smells pretty strong.

Just wanna get all the kinks out so I can move to a larger pot.

Thanks in advance."

Huh? I've been researching forums and random other sources.

Just making sure I'm doing things right or even close...

Hellfire, I'm new to this my self so I can't help you out to much but I can tell you to get the hydrometer and Alcoholmeter and learn to use them and take the guess work out. Once you know what you did and how it came out you can learn what works..

Hi hellfire,
I'm still very much a newbie on this stuff. From your post it looks like you have done a few runs with this recipie. I think (and I could be wrong) at 174f and above you are above the good temp range for hearts and are starting into the tails. I'm guessing that your final 8-10 oz may have some tails in it. Did you make cuts? How is the smell and taste? Is your final product clear, cloudy, blue tinged? There are several good books suggested in our reviews section. I would suggest "the complete distiller". It does a pretty good job of explaining just about every step in the process from what type of still to use and how to use it. May help to give you some answers.

First run came out a little yellowish. Can't remember the taste. My last batch was clear and tastes very strong.

Thank you for the advice on the book I will look into that.
