Im thinking of replacing my variac and router control with this

Maddawgs MD i have an idea that the shunt that i have in line is causing the SSVR to act funny. I'm going to e;iminate the ammeter assembly and test it. Capt jack has that doughnut in the line to sample magneticfields--- ill report soon"

still no good-- my ssvr must be defective. CAPTAIN JACKs works perfect

Scotty, wow you sure aren't having to good of luck with those. Is it working at all or just acting funny. It says it works on 24v - 280v. If you double check the wiring and it still doesn't work I would try to contact the seller on ebay...

Well I'm glad to see that you gents liked my idea....see that it made you make one and try it out...captain jack looks like you made a nice deluxe one...I just showed that to my friend don who was the one who made this controller for 110v for oils in his business and now you have changed his mind on how sweet it looks...I myself have not taken the time to finish mine but its coming...from what I have been reading you didn't change anything other than making it look professional I hope this works out better and for the varying and would be a nice replacement to the RSC...does the bigger heat sink work better or is the small one fine...??

Caveman,
That heat sink that I used works just fine, I did install that fan which moves air across the inside and I don't really get any warm air coming out at all...

Thats great...are you by chance going to use 2-elements or just the one ...for i was wondering by using two at the same time that it would be regulating both of them ...unless wire for both and another switch in line so i could turn off a element and just control one ....whats your thoughts..???

Caveman,
I'm going to be using the 15g kettle so I will be running a 10 - 12 gal. wash at the most and using a 5500w element it should come up to temp in like 40 min. and that is fine for me... I am using a single 30a circuit and If I wanted to use a second element I would need a second circuit and I don't think it's needed for the size kettle I'll be using, If you were to go bigger like the 26 gal. boiler at Hillbilly Stills than a second element would be nice... Just my thoughts...
