Anyone ever use the grain bags for sweet feed? I bought 2 for a 5 gallon bucket not thinking that i am using the brewhaus 32L fermenter. The bags are to small to fit in the fermenter. Was wondering how to measure out my grain since it is bigger than a 5 gallon bucket I think 4 inches in the bottom of my fermenter will be to musch and also wondering if i divide my grain in half and use the two bags together just tie each one shut with some cotton twine with half the feed in each would be ok. Thanks in advance again guys

IMHO you dont have to use a grain bag for sweet feed. i do SF all the time and its really easy to syphon the liquid off the grain. if you use about 4 lbs of sweet feed it will equal about 4 inches. if using a 6 gallon bucket 4 inches wll be at the 1 gallon line.

I concur with Danmiz.... you really don,t want to use a grain bag in this application since you are gonna leave the grain in the fermenter for up to 2 weeks for fermentation. The grain bag idea is for steeping your grain for an hour or so and then removing the grain and the bag altogether. I'm not saying you can't but there's no need really, the grain really does settle and compact on its own and if you use a autosyphon and or a racking cane you can push the tip down into the bed and that acts like a filter of sorts. Of course you have to pay attention and stop before you suck all the yeasty goop form the bed. Just something to think about.

cool thanks guys. And i understand that i can reuse the grain in the fermenter again right? Just add more water sugar and yeast?

Correct. I'm on generation 10 now. Just scoop the top layer of spent grain and add the same amount to replace it. It's a great whiskey.

Man now thats frugal....are you still getting grain flavor from the grain bed after that many times of reuse?? I know you can most certainly reuse the grain again, what I've done is add the water and melted sugar back and give it a good stir and TRY to break up the grain bed at that point just to get it moving and brewing again, also if your water is not tooo hot when you reentroduce it there is prolly still viable yeast in there too. I never wait I just add more but you could wait and see if it takes off before adding."
