I would like to use 10 lbs of sprouted, smoked corn for a wash. If I want to have 25 gallons of fermented wash to play with, do I really need any other ingredients? Would I still have to use sugar even though the corn malt would produce enough sugar? And can you use a metal or plastic trash can to ferment the wash? If you cant tell, I am new to this.

You might find that the gravity is too low with just 10 lbs of corn for a 25 gallon wash ... maybe around 1.015 or there about if you get good conversion??? You'll probably want to add some sugar.

10 lbs of grain will do nothing for one its not enough grain and 2 corn has a low dp value.

for 25 gallons you will need at least 30lbs of corn and 20lbs of 2 row.

and even that is shy.


grains have a ppg of about 35 in theory.
1lb in 1 gallon will get you 1.035 if you get 100% conversion which you wont.

malted corn only has a DP of 30
that is only enough to convert its own starches.
Malted 2 row has a DP of between 120 and 140, 6 row has a DP of 160.

so 2 lbs per gallon = 1.070 max based on a theoretical 35 value of your grain.
25 gallons of water would require 50 lbs of grain.

you need a theoretical 30dp per lb of grain so
50 x 30 = 1500 / 120 = 12.5. so for 50 lbs of grain you would need at the very least 12.5 of malt with a lintner value of at least 120.. I would use more.

this recipe that I just invented would in reality get you about 1.055 sg. I would reduce the corn by 5 an and increase the malted barley by the same."
