"Well,
There seems to be a split opinion on this, so I decided to give it a go for myself and see if I liked it or not... Friday night I started a sweet feed wash with 8 lbs of sugar and the Whiskey Distillers Yeast w/AG. I'm keeping it in the basement and have a heating pad on the fermenter for some added warmth (temp is hovering around 80-82) and it's bubbling quite nicely. I plan to run on Friday or Saturday (pending SG readings). Wish me luck!

Don't push it too hard - Bad tastes can come from pushing the wash too hard. Good luck either way

Ratflinger,
I assume you're refering to keeping the temp up on the wash? My aim was not to speed up the ferment as much as I was worried about the wash getting stuck because it's probably 60-65 degrees in my basement. Is there a prefered temp for this wash?

Getting stuck is not really a prob in that temp range but if it slowed down and you got worried all you have to do is warm it slightly.70-78F would prolly be better. What did the package of yeast give as a fermentation temp....they are usually too warm but no worries just cool it down a little...IMHO.

I bumped the heating pad down to the lowest setting... The yeast packet gave 86 as the highest ferment temp., that seems pretty high to me. I didn't even expect the heating pad to keep it so warm, 80 degrees was the max I was lookin for.
