I highly recommend that you use a turbo yeast in order to get the nutrients that is needed to start the yeast. There are some ideals on the forum of using different types of items to get the yeast going, look and see if one of them suits you if not use turbo.

Rank: Guest Groups: Guests Joined: 2/10/2002(UTC) Posts: 5,254		Yes, regular sugar works great. The only thing about sugar is that you have to use a yeast nutrient. This can be cornmeal, tomato paste or some other nutrient packaged for this purpose.

Rank: Guest Groups: Guests Joined: 2/10/2002(UTC) Posts: 5,254		all i use in my normal washes is call turbo yeast by still spirits!!!!!! i normally use dextrose...but at $2 a kg.. where sugar is around $1 or less a kg... so for white sugar, do i need to add some thing else as well as the turbo yeast?????

Rank: Guest Groups: Guests Joined: 2/10/2002(UTC) Posts: 5,254		ace of 2, you don't have to carmelize your 'white' sugar, but you do need to heat in it water hot enough to completely disolve it into the wash. Generally, a good 'Turbo' such as 'Alcotech' or even 'Prestiege' will provide sufficient nutrients to start and sustain the ferment, but you CAN also add a litle tomato paste ,about 2oz in 20 litres/wash,and I've just learned, a couple of 'Flintstone Vitamines' for kids ,really!,. Any of or all these will provide nutriments to get your wash ,yeast, off and running, so go ahead and make yerself a little 'joy juice'. Good to hear you askin Spiritmaker
