When I diluted my spirits from 170proof to 80proof with distilled water it turned out to be cloudy! Is there anyway to avoid this? Before it was crystal clear and now it just doesnt look nearly as good!

Tap water? Most like why. Let it sit around for a few days open to the air it'll be ok

Mine has done it with tap water, but he said he used distilled water. Ive asked the same question in the past and the answers were wide and varied, I could have cut into the tails to far, wash was to acidic, tap water. I let mine sit for bids with the lid off and nothing happened, ended up just stilling it again.

You may have smeared the heads and tails. but still i don't think that distilled water would make it cloudy. I agree with the others let it sit for a few days. if it still look bad re-distill it, it can't hurt anything. I personally cut mine only to 100 proof 50%abv I don't go any less, that's just me though. good luck.

probably because it was ozonated. Shake it up then take the top off so the gas can dissipate

If you used distilled water and it turned cloudy it's probably tails. Next time check for an oily sheen on the top of your distillate before you dilute. If you used tap water it could be tails or water hardness.

Try filtering thru carbon, that might clean it up for you.

In my experience, this happens when I start into tails. From my Spirit Run, I usually start from pint 4 and go to pint 9 (heads) 10 and up are usually cloudy when I dilute. Still acceptable to my palette but I can taste the change coming. Heads and remaining tails goes into the next SR.
