"I am a newbie, I have spent the last month researching waiting for PSII. Last Sunday I made my first sugar wash. 6.5 gallons spring water, 15 lbs sugar, 1 sachet of 6-8 prestige turbo yeast. I let it ferment and it is done. The wash is cloudy and was going to siphon to another container and put a clearing agent in. Does it matter what I transfer it to? I have a big aluminum pot and not sure if that is ok. Once the cloudiness is gone now what? I have the PSII and not real sure how to distill. Does anybody have newbie advice or a good video I can watch? Thanks"

Hi Morewhit,Glad to have you aboard. The sugar washes that I've made with turbo don't really ever get clear, more like translucent yellow. I've found that if you siphon it off into another container and put it someplace cold for a day or two it will get as clear as it can. If Idon't want to wait I'll use some Sparkolloid clearing agent on it then leave it someplace cold and it clears up within 24 hours.
As for the container I don't use aluminum personally but it would probably be Ok to do so. I would suggest going to a local bakery, sams club, costco, or grocery store that has a bakery and see if they want to get rid of some of their 3 or 5 gallon buckets they get supplies in. That's what I use for storing wash and mash in after siphoning off if I'm not going to run it for awhile.
Distilling is something that is learned over a period of time. It's kind of like growing up, some people will be 12 years old for the rest of their lives and others will progress to more mature levels.
But the good thing is that under "Distilling Methods" and "Distilling Operations" there are a lot of good posts that will help you along. Everything you need to know to get started has been posted many times by various people. Use the "Search Box in the upper right corner and search for " My First Run" I think there have been a few of those.

"Welcome Morewhit, I'd like to add that I have never had a clear wash, and never worried about it much. Maybe I'm missing something here, but the end product is always clear as rainwater for me, so I try to keep solids out of my kettle and not wory bout color. Good luck, Farmin"

Welcome morewhit, don't be confused by the word CLEAR. what your looking for are the solids settling to the bottom. Do some searching around on the site and you will find many threads with detailed info. Each rig is a little different so yours will have its own little quriks. Remember SLOW is good, this is not a hobby for someone who is always in a hurry. Good luck,
