"I ran my first run and have a few questions:
Mash was 25L spring water - 15 lbs sugar, 1 sachet of 6-8 Prestige Turbo Yeast - Fermented 7 days
Distilled 14L of Mash for 6 hrs
173-174 degrees with new Pro Series II and got about 3 liters of 180 proof spirit. I read as much as possible about filtering using Activated Stone Carbon. I bought the Brewhaus stainless steel filtering system along with the Premium grad .4-.85mm Activated Stone Carbon 1.7L and the small 55mm filter paper.
I cut the 180 proof spirit to 85 proof and poured it into the Stainless steel filter system with 1 sheet of filter paper.
Here is the questions:Confused
1. How much distilled spirit should 14L of Mash produce and how long will it take?
2. How long should it take to filter 1.75L of 85 proof using the stainless steel filter system (it took almost 20hrs for 1.75L)
3. Are there any picture or videos on how to use the stainless steel filter system.

I proceeded the next night to run the remaining 11L for 3 hrs and produced 2L of distilled spirits at 180 proof. I am waiting to hear back on this post on the best way to filter it.
Thanks
Bill"

Hi Bill,
I'm new to this as well and am waiting on my still order from BH. I just wanted to let you know that there is a good book on activated stone carbon and how to use the filter, it's free and on the BH web site. I never noticed it and just recently noticed it, and it teaches you just about all you need to know. I think 20 hrs for 1.75L is way to long did you add water after your product was exiting the funnel? There is also a post from Maddawgs in Distiller Operation titled "Carbon filtering using the Brewhaus basic filter system" and he tells you how he did his first filter run, It's also some good info. check it out.

Hi Bill,
I have run my 13 quarts of 110 proof thru the Brewhaus basic filter system 2 times and each time it has taken just about 11 hours and that includes about 2 liters of hot water before and after the spirit. Did you wash your carbon before use? This will get all the ash and oils out of it. Did you make sure it was wet before your spirit was added? I recently gave a very detailed review of the Brewhaus carbon filtering system and a good description of the process I used. I based my process on a lot of research including reading the book on the Brewhaus site. It seems that your times are very long and you are losing a lot of spirit in the process. You should get out of it what you put into it and it should filter at around a liter per hour. You may lose a bit of proof and gain a bit of volume in the process.
